Weekly Update (December 21st) - My setup, and the Youtube plan
I don't have much I wanna say here this week, other than that my job search is going kinda badly. Then again it is christmas time and normally jobs arent exactly flying out at this time of year. Oh well, hopefully I'll get lucky after new years. In the meantime however, I have been working on a small scale setup revamp. Mostly just tweaks to my window manager.
I used to have a pretty basic setup, it should still be on my tumblr wall if you wanna have a peak. I ended up making a Remillia Scarlet themed setup. Through clever use of terminal settings and compositor tweaks, I got a nice semi-frosted glass look that blends all the colours in my background together pretty well. I tried using a fitting scarlet colouring before the ashy red-purple I settled on in the end, since the former just killed readability in some instances. I like how it turned out, especially with how satisfying it is to rice i3wm with all of its limitations and whatnot. I might post my dotfiles on github if anyone is interested but rn they are stored safely on a USB drive sitting on my desk.
I also want to do a complete refresh of my current setup. I kinda have the stereotypical transfem linux setup but I dont really make effective use of my thinkpad as a laptop, which is kinda the whole point of having one. That is mostly because I dont get around much tbh, I should really do that. Anyway, I want to go for a mini-PC. Preferably something beefy and Ryzen/Radeon based so I can do linux gaming on it aswell. Then I might install Windows on my Steam Deck and use that as my low end windows backup machine (and main portable). If the mini I spend way too much on ends up being a crock for linux, I can just make that a windows gaming box and maintain my current setup. Which kinda begs the question of "why bother??"
Well, I want to get back into making Youtube Videos. Back when I was younger I made some really mid DSP Gaming grade camera-at-the-screen gaming videos, and that didnt really take off, and then I did some boring vlogs that also didn't take off. Then I tried gaming news but I mostly just ended up regurgitating what others were saying, had a surprising hit where I called out a twitter account for impersonating a schizophrenic man (which is OBVIOUSLY an awful idea jesus christ). Like I didn't really do much of anything but copy what I already did with my squeaky voice and annoying pestering personality.
Anyhow, I'm still doing that cuz I want to make video essays about dumb nerd things I like. And I mean actual researched essays, not me reading the first half of a biography to a camera and then reading some articles...but who could possibly do that? Thats such a shameless thing to do smh. The new computer, regardless of whether it runs Linux or Windows WILL be instrumental to this setup because obviously rendering and recording 720p video on a thinkpad isnt exactly doable, and in the 4K age thats not really acceptable...is what I would say if I didn't plan on using an analogue video camera as my main recording aparatus. Which I dont have yet, but either way there WILL be sections of these videos that would need to be rendered in at least 1080p. Also those things are really hard to come across these days, especially a semi-decent one that wont make me look like a menu portrait in a 4th gen JRPG. Probably something from sony? Or maybe I'll rep the european in me and go for Phillips? Sure not the first, but I like the aestethic. Gonna have to get a composite capture card tho(._.).
When that kicks off, I'll relaunch my YT and stick it on the homepage, I'll probably embed my vids here too.
